Propose a New Name for Earth Scouts

The Earth Scouts mission and badges have been embraced by parents, faith communities, and schools through curricula and after school programs. Last year, Earth Scouts benefited from the wonderful services of a part time director and has been growing more and more popular. I and others on the board of directors for Earth Charter US are excited about the stories we hear from facilitators about their groups’ activities and the differences they are making in their schools and communities.

Recently, it was brought to our attention that use of the word “Scouts” in the name of our Earth Scouts program may infringe on the registered trademark rights of a third party. In the interests of reaching a reasonable and amicable resolution, we have resolved to change the name of the program. Through our enthusiastic network of friends, we will continue to foster within children and youth the principles of the Earth Charter to build a more caring, sustainable and peaceful world. But, we will do it under a new name. So, we are inviting you now to send in your suggestion for a name that reflects the meaning and goals for which Earth Scouts has stood and will continue to project for our children and youth.

After receiving proposed names, I will make the final selection. The person who submits the name selected will receive a T-shirt, with the new program name and logo, in consideration of their contribution. Please be aware that in submitting proposed names you are granting Earth Charter US the right to use your name submission for any and all purposes, perpetually, throughout the world, without royalty or other obligation by Earth Charter US. If you would like to play a part in this step forward, please email your suggestions to misann@earthcharterus.org by end of day Tuesday, May 22.

With Gratitude,
