Helping the People of Haiti

This last Tuesday, a devastating earth quake hit just outside of Port au Prince, Haiti. Already, one of the poorest countries in the world, the January 12th earthquake devastated the capital city, where many of the country's resources were concentrated. The country is now in great need of assistance.

We can neither respond effectively to the challenge of climate change, nor the many other challenges that stand in the way of a just, sustainable and peaceful future, without a global movement to adopt an integrated ethical framework like the Earth Charter.
Unfortunately, the Copenhagen negotiations bogged down in the same old “real politik” which both eliminated the Earth Charter from the Earth Summit negotiations 18 years ago, and led to a failure by the developed countries to transfer “green” technologies and provide the level of financial assistance they committed to in Agenda 21.

There are numerous repercussions for the Earth and its ecosystems that result from our consumer society ranging from the exploitation of natural resources and people to waste disposal. However, as we have become more and more aware of these impacts, a few product designers are beginning to integrate a lifestyle analysis into their product development.

Interior Department will once again scrutinize the granting of oil and gas leases

In some exciting news, the Department of the Interior has announced that the department will add more oversight to oil and gas leasing on federal lands. The move is being made in order to add logic to the permitting system and will add site-specific review to each parcel being granted and allow for public participation in the process.
