The following are on-going, national projects or initiatives that support the Earth Charter in the US. Earth Charter Community Summits (ECCS)The Earth Charter Community Summits are a grassroots effort to bring people together in cities around the world to be inspired to make the Earth Charter's principles a reality in their lives and communities. Summits are held annually on the second Saturday of October (in 2005, October 8) in order to inform, educate and engage people, including youth, of diverse backgrounds with the Earth Charter through music, arts, enlightened speakers and meaningful dialogues. Earth ScoutsEarth Scouts is a new national program based on the Earth Charter with badges centered on respect for nature, economic justice, universal human rights and a culture of peace, is inviting volunteers including parents, youth, educators, artists and other enthusiastic community members to help in its formation. Visit the Earth Scouts website at Earth Charter Community Alliance (ECCA)Earth Charter Community Alliance, founded in 2002, is composed of individuals working with Earth Charter and is an everygrowing network of community representatives implementing the Earth Charter and its principles in their hometowns. They share support and information about their Earth Charter projects. Experienced members also provide individual mentoring and assistance to newcomers. In addition, a moderated listserve and conference calls promote communication among members. To become a member it is necessary to be actively working on an Earth Charter community initiative or to have taken initial steps towards creating one. The alliance is an informal one without dues or other costs. Sustainable Business AwardsThe purpose of the Sustainable Business Awards is to build interest in and commitment to sustainable business by companies and the general public. It will also be the initial step to forming a Tampa Bay Sustainable Business Coalition. Earth Charter U.S. is forming a steering committee for the Sustainable Business Awards event being planned for Friday, October 10th in conjunction with the Global Climate Change Community Summits being hosted by University of Tampa on October 11, 2008 and webcast to 58 cities. The awards’ event will provide a prototype for members of the Earth Charter Community Alliance to use in their locales around the country. Learn more about the Sustainable Business Awards Event. League of VotersThe purpose of the League of Earth Charter Voters is to provide Voter Educational Activities that include sufficiently full and fair explanation of the facts related to the principles and issues of the Earth Charter, an international people's Declaration of Interdependence, to permit individual or public formation of independent opinion. Projects, Events and Activities in the U.S.Earth Charter U.S. initiatives are constantly growing with your contributions. As you become a member of the Earth Charter Community Alliance, and create or join our E.C. Groups , each group can post and manage their events to share with everyone. Earth Charter Community Indicators ProjectThe Earth Charter Community Indicators’ Project, a citizen engagement effort to measure quality of life in Tampa, began to take form after the 2003 Summit.
