Academy Prep Center of Tampa Earth Scouts
Arts & Sustainability Earth Day Event
Tampa, Fla. –Academy Prep Center of Tampa (A.P.C.T.) and the University of Tampa (U.T.) art department have joined together with Earth Charter U.S. to host the Earth Scouts Arts and Sustainability Earth Day Event, Saturday, April 24 from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Hillsborough Community College, Ybor Campus. The event is free to the public, and children of all ages are welcome. Be sure to arrive before 10:30 a.m. for the opening ceremony.
This family fun event will feature A.P.C.T Earth Scouts student-run booths and performances that convey the Earth Charter principles of peace and nonviolence, respect for nature, human rights, participatory democracy, and social and economic justice. Earth Scouts is a Program of Earth Charter US for boys and girls from 3 to 13 years of age. www.earthcharterus.org.
Families will be issued a “passport” to each of the booths where children can create art with recycled materials, make peace signs, bird feeders, and take part in My Voice Counts project. Whole Foods Market has donated healthy snacks for the event.
Other activities will include, a performance by the Stageworks Drum Circle and A.P.C.T. fifth- grade girls and as well as a storytelling performance co-created by A.P.C.T. sixth-grade girls and U.T. professors of dance, Susan Taylor Lennon and Lisa Barton. The A.P.C.T 7th graders along with HCC Ybor Campus International Students will present the “Good News World Report” video.
Visitors to the Arts and Sustainability Earth Day Event will also receive a chance to win a bicycle donated by the Junior League of Tampa, Community Action Committee.
